Easy Chinese Characters 上(shàng)

Hi, there!

Learning how to read and write Chinese characters is one of the most rewarding aspects of studying Chinese. However, at the mean time, it always freaks out a lot of Chinese learners. As a matter of fact, it is a case of 'the more you learn, the easier it becomes'.

Two important tips to learn Chinese characters:

  1. get started as soon as you can.
  2. Just keep doing it.

This mini podcast will give you a taste of 54 common characters by using a set of poker we have designed.

The character we are going to learn today is pronounced as “shàng” (上), which means“above” or “up”. Looking at the poker card, you can find the character look like something rising above the horizon. To make it a phrase,   we need another word such as “lái”(来)meaning “come”. So “shàng lái” (上来) is “come up”.
