IB Chinese Teacher Silvia Huang
Hi everyone, I'm Silvia, a full-time IB and IGCSE Chinese teacher at New Concept Mandarin. I hold a bachelor's degree in Chinese Language and Literature, and earned my master's degree from The Education University of Hong Kong. My academic training has given me a solid foundation in literary studies and language teaching methods, helping me better understand the logic behind international Chinese curricula.
I'm a native speaker of both Mandarin and Cantonese, which is a real advantage in IB teaching. For Cantonese-speaking students, I can help you transform spoken expressions into standard written Chinese — so you no longer worry about sounding like you're just talking on paper. For Mandarin-speaking students, my literary background will guide you to deeper textual analysis and more nuanced appreciation.
I've taught in several primary and secondary schools, and have long been involved in educational charity projects. These experiences have convinced me that every student has unlimited potential — the key lies in the teacher's ability to discover and nurture it. I tailor my teaching plans to each student's needs, using the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) theory to build solid learning scaffolds. My classroom is not about one-way knowledge delivery, but a student-centered approach that uses culture to ignite your inner motivation.
