Hi everyone, I'm Sena, a full-time IB and IGCSE Chinese teacher at New Concept Mandarin. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Pedagogy (Normal) from Nanjing Normal University, and earned my Master of Education from The University of Hong Kong, with coursework including Teaching Language and Literature in International Education in the IB Language A Curriculum. I also hold a Middle School Teacher Qualification Certificate (Subject: Chinese Language and Literature) and a Putonghua Proficiency Test Certificate (Grade 2 Level A). My academic training has given me a solid foundation in pedagogy and language teaching methods, helping me better understand the logic behind international Chinese curricula.
I'm a native speaker of Mandarin, and I'm also fluent in English — which is a real advantage in IB teaching. For Mandarin-speaking students, my literature and pedagogy background will guide you to deeper textual analysis and more nuanced appreciation. For students from English-speaking backgrounds, I can explain complex concepts clearly and effectively, so you no longer worry about understanding the requirements of the IB curriculum.
Prior to my graduate studies in Hong Kong, I gained extensive teaching experience across primary and secondary schools in Nanjing, working as a Chinese Language Teacher at Nanjing Xianlin Foreign Language School. My international exposure includes study at Kyushu University, North Carolina State University, and the University of Helsinki, where I completed studies in Pedagogy and the Science of Learning and Teaching, and designed phenomenon-based teaching courses. These experiences have convinced me that every student has unlimited potential — the key lies in the teacher's ability to discover and nurture it. I tailor my teaching plans to each student's needs, using a structured and student-centred approach that combines engaging lesson design with clear learning objectives. My classroom is not about one-way knowledge delivery, but an engaging, student-centered approach that uses culture to ignite your inner motivation.
My goal is not only to help you break through academic bottlenecks and improve exam scores, but also to elevate your overall Chinese literary competence. I can teach a variety of Chinese programs, including IB, IGCSE, GCSE, and AP Chinese.
