IB Chinese Teacher Celia Li

Hi everyone, I'm Celia, a full-time IB and IGCSE Chinese teacher at New Concept Mandarin. I hold a bachelor's degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Guangdong University of Education, and earned my master's degree in Chinese Studies from The Education University of Hong Kong. I also hold a Putonghua Proficiency Test Certificate and a China Senior High School Teacher Qualification Certificate. My academic training has given me a solid foundation in Chinese literature and language teaching methods, helping me better understand the logic behind international Chinese curricula.
I'm a native speaker of Mandarin, and I'm also proficient in Cantonese and English — which is a real advantage in IB teaching. For Cantonese-speaking students, I can help you transform spoken expressions into standard written Chinese — so you no longer worry about sounding like you're just talking on paper. For Mandarin-speaking students, my literary background will guide you to deeper textual analysis and more nuanced appreciation. And for students from English-speaking backgrounds, I can explain complex concepts clearly and effectively.
I've been working as a Mandarin tutor for three years, delivering customized one-to-one Chinese tutorial classes for students, with a focus on improving listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. I also have rich experience tutoring students in the fields of IB, IGCSE, and AP Chinese studies, helping them improve their proficiency and score higher in their examinations. These experiences have convinced me that every student has unlimited potential — the key lies in the teacher's ability to discover and nurture it. I tailor my teaching plans to each student's needs, using a structured and student-centred approach to build solid learning scaffolds. My classroom is not about one-way knowledge delivery, but an engaging, student-centered approach that uses culture to ignite your inner motivation.
My goal is not only to help you break through academic bottlenecks and improve exam scores, but also to elevate your overall Chinese literary competence.
Learning IB Chinese is both an academic challenge and an intellectual journey. I hope to be your most reliable partner — from choosing the right words to engaging in deep literary thinking. Let's tackle the difficulties together, and explore the vast and wonderful world of Chinese language and culture.
