Our Immersion Program offers courses for all levels - from complete Beginners to Advanced learners (no minimum Mandarin ability required). You will be given a pre-program assessment prior to the start of your course to determine your Mandarin skills, in order to place you in the correct level in our curriculum.

The following are the general descriptions of the 9 proficiency levels we offer.

SURVIVAL	1	BASIC SURVIVAL	Able to perform in a very limited capacity within the most immediate, predictable areas of need, using essentially conversational Chinese.
	2	SURVIVAL	Able to satisfy immediate, predictable needs and basic everyday transactional needs, using predominantly simple sentences in Chinese.
	3	TRANSACTIONAL	Able to satisfy everyday transactional needs and limited social needs, using conversational Chinese plus basic Chinese characters.
SOCIAL	4	BASIC SOCIAL	Able to satisfy basic social needs, and routine needs. Able to negotiate for personal and social needs, Able to read simples passages in Chinese characters.
	5	SOCIAL	Able to satisfy most social needs and routine needs. Able to talk about most topics of routine needs, using complicated language to communicate.
	6	COMMUNICATIVE	Able to perform effectively in most informal and formal situations pertinent to social and community life and everyday commerce and recreation.
PROFESSIONAL	7	BASIC PROFESSIONAL	Able to perform effectively in basic professional business related situations. Able to understand the main ideas of business discussion in all kinds of media.
	8	PROFESSIONAL	Able to perform very effectively in almost all situations pertinent to social and community life and everyday commerce and recreation.
	9	NATIVE-LIKE	Proficiency equivalent to that of a native speaker of the same socio/cultural variety. Able to function well in all 4 skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
